Bloodwork Services for Pets

Complete blood count (CBC) and other blood tests diagnose the cause of vomiting, fever, and more.

We perform bloodwork in-house to ensure we’re monitoring and accurately diagnosing your dog or cat’s health issues. Bloodwork isn’t only recommended when our patients are sick. It is an effective preventative tool that allows us to keep track of any changes in your dog or cat’s health. Early diagnosis allows us to develop a treatment plan before a health issue progresses.

Routine bloodwork is always a beneficial way to monitor your pet's health. It can also potentially pick up trends that can indicate any future medical concerns allowing the possibility of early intervention.

How is bloodwork able to determine an illness?

One of the most common types of bloodwork we perform that can aid in the diagnosis is a complete blood count (CBC). A complete blood count provides us with vital information about how well your dog or cat’s body is functioning, including their level of hydration, blood clotting ability, inflammation, and anemia. Decreased immune system response could be a sign of an infection. Since each measure of the CBC corresponds to specific areas of your dog or cat’s body, we’re able to determine what is being impacted. If your dog or cat has any of the following symptoms, bloodwork can support our diagnosis:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Decreased energy levels

How do you collect blood samples?

We typically only need a few vials of your dog or cat’s blood to be able to accurately perform our in-house tests. We identify a vein that’s easily accessible, like in the neck or limb. Proper preparation is also essential to ensure your dog or cat’s bloodwork is an accurate representation of their health. If you have questions about your dog or cat’s upcoming bloodwork, please contact us at 905-571-3700.
